Inspire Offers Assistance to Texans During Deadly Winter Storm

By Raj Prashad

In the face of record-low temperatures, ice and snow this February, millions of Texans were left without power, reliable water and food. As members in the community struggled to stock up on necessities, Inspire, its family of brands and franchisees stepped in to support the communities its brands serve.

When Inspire’s Chief Communications Officer, Chris Fuller learned about a food shortage at J. Robinson Shelter in Houston, he engaged national operations leaders to see how Inspire’s family of brands could help. After residents at the shelter went without hot meals for two days, SONIC Drive-In Chief Operating Officer Eddie Saroch and Vice President of Franchise Operations Linda Wiseley jumped into action, working with local franchisee Kamal Singh to deliver 60 chicken dinners and drinks the very next day.

In addition to the efforts of local franchisees just like Singh, the Arby’s Foundation and Buffalo Wild Wings Foundation donated a combined $40,000 to Feeding Texas, a statewide network of food banks ensuring adequate and nutritious meals for all Texans. The network of food banks reaches every county in Texas and works to provide food assistance and emergency supplies in times just like these.

The Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation donated a total of $30,000, split evenly among Crossroads Community Center in Dallas, Bethel’s Heavenly Hands in Houston and Central Texas Food Bank in Austin. The Crossroads Community Center works to provide nutritious food to low-income neighbors. Bethel’s Heavenly Hands provides vital resources for food and clothing to individuals and families. And the Central Texas Food Bank provides food assistance to one of the fastest-growing regions in the nation.

Additionally, through the SONIC Foundation, SONIC will continue its decades-long efforts of providing financial assistance to drive-in team members experiencing economic hardship due to declared natural disasters. Over the past 16 years, the SONIC Disaster Relief Fund has granted over $2 million to team members in need. The SONIC Disaster Relief Fund receives support from SONIC franchisees, suppliers, Support Center and Field Team members.
