SONIC Drive-In Team from Summertown, Tenn., Emerges Victorious in the 27th Annual DR PEPPER SONIC GAMES

SONIC® Drive-In is congratulating this year’s gold medal-winning team from 9102 Highway 20 in Summertown, Tenn., for its outstanding performance in the 2021 DR PEPPER SONIC GAMES, the brand’s premier training program. Competing against thousands of drive-in teams, the Summertown team ultimately claimed national recognition as the country’s best drive-in crew in this year’s competition.

“The Summertown team gave it their all and exemplified SONIC’s core values throughout the entire series of trainings, quizzes and team building exercises in the DR PEPPER SONIC GAMES,” said Kevin Knutson, vice president of operations training for SONIC. “Their dedication to excellent guest service and positive team culture came together to create an exceptional group, deserving of the winning title.”

For seven months, drive-in team members nationwide participated in a series of individual and team trainings as part of the DR PEPPER SONIC GAMES, including:

  • Food Safety
  • Switchboard: Order Taking
  • Fountain: Drink Preparation
  • Ice Cream: Frozen Treat Preparation
  • Dresser, Grill and Swamp: Food Preparation
  • Carhop: Guest Service & Delivery
  • Monthly Promotions
  • Core Values and Brand Promise

“The DR PEPPER SONIC GAMES gives us a goal and a mindset to go for gold every day,” said Briar Pierce, general manager for the Summertown SONIC. “It solidifies the fact that the hard work pays off. The DR PEPPER SONIC GAMES is a top tier training program that builds not only a store but a community!”

The runner-up drive-ins in this year’s DR PEPPER SONIC GAMES are the teams at 1221 East McCart St. in Krum, Texas, and 4719 Clinton Boulevard in Jackson, Miss., who were awarded silver and bronze medals, respectively. Additionally, SONIC presented gold, silver and bronze medals to each of the top three team members in their respective station roles.
