Buffalo Wild Wings Creates Custom Boots for Recovering College Soccer Player

It was a horrifying moment for everyone involved, and one that nearly ended Culver-Stockton College freshman Sierra Schlemmer’s life. Last October, Schlemmer, a defender for CS-C drove into the penalty box to chase down a free kick when a Benedictine goalkeeper came charging out, jumping into the air and catching Schlemmer in the stomach with her knee.

She thought the wind was knocked out of her as she hit the ground, but it was much more serious than anyone imagined. As Schlemmer was helped to the sideline by team trainers, they were concerned about potential internal bleeding and called for an ambulance. After arriving at the hospital, doctors discovered the collision had lacerated Schlemmer’s pancreas and caused major internal bleeding.

She underwent the life-saving surgery and spent nearly six weeks in the hospital, her diet heavily monitored with tubes and IVs utilized. Eventually, the restrictions on what food or drinks she could enjoy were lifted and she was given the green light to eat whatever she could handle. Her first meal of choice? An order of sweet and savory honey BBQ wings from Buffalo Wild Wings.

“After going through such a trauma and making it back to the sport I love – having your favorite sports bar message you and send you an amazing package was the cherry on top! I am so grateful that the Buffalo Wild Wings Brand Engagement Team came across my story and decided to support me on my journey back to the pitch. #BuffaloWildWingsFanForever” Sierra Schlemmer

More than five months recovered from surgery and after overcoming a bout with COVID-19, Schlemmer began her gradual return to reality. First, she was able to transition from online classes back to attending school on campus. Then, came the return to the pitch, participating in the majority of the Wildcats’ spring practices and taking part in two of their spring games. Now, back on her feet and maintaining the same relentless attitude she came to college with, Buffalo Wild Wings sent Schlemmer a pair of custom boots to celebrate her comeback.

Congratulations to Schlemmer on her return to the field and check out the custom boots below:
