Over the years, Austin Bennett has enjoyed countless trips to Arby’s. Recently, after finishing his go-to meal of a double Beef ‘N Cheddar with Curly Fries and a Sweet Tea, Bennett’s friend noticed something he’d never seen on the bottom of the Arby’s bag: the words “25 lb. Mod Bag 1-5 Items*.” So Bennett and his friends grabbed a 20-pound weight, placed it in the empty Arby’s bag and filmed everything on TikTok.
“We were like, ‘There’s no way this bag can hold 20 pounds.’ But we wanted to try and see what happened,” Bennett said. “We recorded the whole thing live, so the reactions you saw are genuine. We really couldn’t believe it held it without breaking.”
The video became a viral hit, steadily growing with more than 2.3 million users seeing it across popular platforms like Delish and Yahoo.
“I was just kind of dumbfounded. This is just a video that we made when we were bored,” Bennett said. “I was kind of freaking out. My friend who I was hanging out with last week was laughing because every time I would open it up, I would just be in disbelief, like ‘What is happening?'”
Over the weeks that followed, things would only get better for Bennett after Arby’s mailed him a swag bag that included meat sweats, two 10-gallon hats, the 13-hour puzzle, gift cards and a letter acknowledging his viral video. Bennett later filmed himself opening the box and donned the Arby’s attire in a follow-up TikTok video, enjoying as he calls it, his “taste of Internet fame.”
“This has all been really fun,” Bennett said. “I framed the letter Arby’s sent and included the part of the Arby’s bag that says 25 lbs as well. All of this is something I want to remember forever. It’s been a really cool experience.”
