Arby’s Foundation Fights Weekend Hunger for Atlanta’s Youth

By Matt Baker

When the school bell rings on Friday, most children celebrate. But for 13 million American children experiencing hunger, the weekend means limited access to food.

That’s why the Arby’s Foundation began the Backpack Buddies Program. The Backpack Buddies Program offers a monthly opportunity for team members at the Inspire Global Support Center in Atlanta, Georgia, to combat childhood hunger in their own backyard.

Volunteers gather to stuff over 400 backpacks with food items, such as juice boxes, Chef Boyardee, oatmeal, cereal and Pop-Tarts. Each bag also includes handwritten notes to the students at Belmont Hills Elementary School. These backpacks provide weekend nourishment that so many children would normally be without.

“The Backpack Buddies program is a great way for our Global Support Center to come together to help end weekend hunger for children across our community” Emily Crawford, Director of Impact & Communications, Arby’s Foundation
