Memorable Moments: Celebrating 75 Years of Baskin-Robbins

For 75 years, Baskin-Robbins has been a special part of people’s lives. From praising a good report card, to winning a championship game or ending a first date on a sweet note, the brand has been there to scoop these memorable moments for guests around the world.

The first scoop took place in 1945 when ice cream enthusiast Irv Robbins got out of the military and opened his first ice cream shop in Glendale, California. Shortly thereafter, his brother-in-law, and fellow ice cream enthusiast, Burt Baskin, returned home from World War II and opened his own ice cream shop in Pasadena, California.

It didn’t take long for the two entrepreneurs to combine their businesses into one unique chain of family-friendly ice cream shops, offering a different ice cream flavor for each of the 31 days of the month. Baskin and Robbins flipped a coin to see whose name would get top billing. Baskin won and just like that, Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream was born.

Over the next 75 years of making ice cream and memories, Baskin-Robbins has grown to become the world’s largest chain of ice cream specialty shops with more than 7,900 shops in 52 countries.

To commemorate the milestone anniversary, the brand asked guests to share their own memories across social media as part of Baskin-Robbins’ 75th Birthday Sweepstakes in December. Participants were eligible to win one of 75 ice cream prizes, including ice cream for life.
