The second annual Blazin’ Games Presented by Pepsi officially wrapped at the Buffalo Wild Wings (BWW) Convention last month. After nine months of competition, members of the Top 10 teams from BWW sports bars around the country traveled to Nashville, Tennessee to compete in the championship.
At the convention, finalists were tested on their brand knowledge, plus culinary and bartending skills. Judges included renowned mixologist and President of the United States Bartenders’ Guild Kim Haasarud with support from American Beverage Marketers, 2021 U.S. Bartender of the Year Adam Fournier, Diageo Spirits Master Trainer Vanessa Leon, and Molson Coors’ Vice President of National Accounts Chris Gick.
“Achieving a top 10 finalist spot is an incredible accomplishment that the teams fought hard to win,” says BWW Vice President of Training Rachel Richal. “When we kicked off the Blazin’ Games in February, there were more than 1,200 sports bar teams competing to be named the champion.”
Teams competed through four phases, with prizes provided by Red Bull to incentivize teams that moved on to the third phase. By Phase Three, only 50 sports bar teams remained. Judges visited each team at their sports bar locations across the country to celebrate and reward points based on their skill demonstration, execution, knowledge, and performance in areas including service, food production, bar skills, food safety, teamwork, and the overall guest experience.
“The Blazin’ Games continues to prove that gamification as a training tool can create excitement and fun for your team,” says Rachel. “We’ve seen it directly drive business metrics, enhance culture, and improve the team member and guest experience. The teams love that they have a chance to come together and prove their skills.”
After four exciting phases, the Blazin’ Games Presented by Pepsi 2022 Champion took to the stage victorious on the final night of the convention. Congratulations to Patton Wings Franchise’s Lake Orion Sports Bar #3204, led by General Manager Chris Lang.
