Arby’s Dives into the TikTok ‘Sea Shanty’ Trend as the Fish Sandwich King

By Raj Prashad

Building off its momentum from a year ago, Arby’s is spending the early part of 2021 reminding fans that there’s no better fish sandwich in the quick-service industry than the Arby’s Crispy Fish sandwich.

What started with Arby’s comparing its Crispy Fish sandwich — featuring wild-caught Alaskan Pollock — to the Filet-O-Fish® through tv ads and social jabs has continued through a trend spawned by TikTok star Nathan Evans. After the 26 year old’s rendition of “Wellerman” garnered millions of views and encouraged users to create their own sea shanties, Arby’s hit the ground running, fulfilling its position on social as a “fellow fan” and creating its own catchy Crispy Fish sea shanty.

To date, the Arby’s sea shanty video has 5.5 million views, which is the third-most watched video on the brand’s channel. Aside from offering an accurate side-by-side depiction in the fish sandwich war, the video has also engaged an entirely new demographic and audience while showing the high quality product.

The Arby’s Crispy Fish Sandwich features wild-caught Alaskan Pollock, crispy-fried to golden-brown perfection with tartar sauce and iceberg lettuce, topped with a sesame seed bun. Arby’s King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe features crispy, wild-caught Alaskan Pollock on sweet Hawaiian buns.

Guests can enjoy these two sandwiches in restaurants nationwide through March.
